Directory of Financial Service Providers under preparation
Finally, the banking public are about to get a comprehensive guide to the various financial products and services available in Ghana, and which institutions are duly licensed by the relevant regulatory institutions to offer them. The publication, called The Ghana Financial Directory, is a response to the lack of adequate access by actual and potential users of financial products and services to comprehensive, up to date information as to who is licensed to offer what, and are therefore subject to prudential, responsible regulation which both protects their customers and ensures quality financial product and service delivery.
The Financial Directory Ghana is being prepared by the publishers of The Business Executive, a monthly magazine published since 2011 from Ghana, covering business, finance, economy, investment and socio-economic development issues across sub-Saharan Africa and which is widely circulated in the major English speaking countries on the continent as well as North America and the United Kingdom.
The impending financial directory will cover universal/commercial banking; investment banking and asset/fund management; rural & community banking; the savings & loans sub-sector; non-bank financial intermediaries; both life and non-life insurance including brokerage services as well as reinsurance; and pension/provident schemes.
The publishers are currently in the process of securing the endorsements and technical support of the relevant regulatory institutions and indeed several have already been obtained. Co-operation from the various regulatory institutions will ensure the accuracy and veracity of the publication which will thus enable it meet its objective of serving as the authentic one-stop reference guide to the financial services industry in Ghana.
The Ghana Financial Directory will contain listings of every licensed financial institution in Ghana arranged by genre. It will also identify and explain the various generic products and services offered by each genre.
Importantly, the publication will offer the opportunity for financial service providers to advertise their non-generic, branded products and services as well to a captive readership in a publication which will have an unusually long shelf life.
The Financial Directory will be available in hard copy form, on line and as a CD. It is scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2017.
