New York City-based pizza enters Ghana…proceeds to support water project
Famous Famiglia, a New York City-based restaurant which specializes in pizza, has entered the Ghanaian market, being its first entry into Africa.
Famous Famiglia will open its first Africa store in Accra this month with the intention of opening other stores throughout the country in the coming months.
Proceeds from Famous Famiglia pizza sales will support, among other things, CleanAcwa, a major clean water initiative in Africa.
Famous Famiglia’s Africa entry is led by Daniel W. Isaacs, a New York City attorney, and his brother Douglas, an Emergency Room physician and Deputy Medical Director for the FDNY.
“Not only are we bringing New York’s Favorite Pizza to Africa,” Isaacs said, “but we’ll be delivering a truly authentic New York City experience to Ghana, while offering a unique experience through our menu offerings as well as in our commitment to service.
This is part of our long-term strategy in bringing the only authentic New York pizza to a thriving African market and to serve as good emissaries for America itself”.
Commenting on the decision of Famous Famiglia to help provide water for communities in the country with its proceeds, the Co-founder of CleanAcwa said: “CleanAcwa is hugely excited about Famous Famiglia’s entry in the African market and enormously grateful for the partnership we are forming to provide wells and boreholes to deprived communities.”
“New Yorkers understand the value of great water, and Ghanaians have a great affinity for all things New York. We wish Famous Famiglia and the Isaacs brothers Godspeed in their African launch.”
Started in 1986 by a first-generation immigrant family to the United States, Famous Famiglia opened its first location in the heart of New York City, in perhaps the world’s most competitive pizza market. Today, Famous Famiglia is a global brand, with outlets throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Asia, Europe, South America and the Middle East.
In Ghana, Famous Famiglia will be offering its award-winning pizza-by-the-slice, whole gourmet pizza pies, and many other popular dishes served in New York City and throughout the United States.
“We believe the African market offers an exceptional opportunity for the Famous Famiglia brand. By offering a variety of authentic New York City pizzas to the increasingly sophisticated tastes of the Ghanaian consumer, we believe that the Famous Famiglia experience will satisfy the growing demand for an exceptional pizza experience.
We are very excited about our partnership with the Isaacs brothers and for the brand’s entry into the African continent,” Mr. Kolaj, Co-Founder of the restaurant added.
