Tonaton appoints Zubair Riaz, as new MD
The parent company of Tonaton.com, Saltside Technologies, has appointed Zubair Riaz, as the new Managing Director for Tonaton (an online trading platform).
His appointment took effect from March 1, as he succeeds Sandra Abrokwa Owusu-Kyeremanten, who served from 2015 till February, 2017.
Mr. Raiz has extensive experience in the area of strategy and policy formulation, classifieds, start-ups, and operations.
Prior to this new appointment in Ghana, he was Head of Operations at Saltside Group. He also has experience of working in the Middle East, Asia and Africa, and has performed duties as Managing Director at Efritin.com (a sister classified site in Nigeria).
Before joining Saltside, he worked with large scale operations of multinationals like Telenor and Samsung.
In a statement copied to the B&FT, Mr. Raiz said: “Ghana is picking up in terms of internet penetration and like more developed countries, and the use of internet as a medium of transacting business is becoming the preference of the people.”
He further assured that as long as Tonaton remains patronised, his focus will be to grow the Ghanaian market and drive the company’s profitability by introducing high quality services and adding value to people’s lives.
In an exclusive interview with the B&FT, the new MD, noted that as part of innovations to improve Tonaton’s services, his team would bring on board a dynamic job portal for businesses to find right talents and job seekers to connect with right employers.
He also said the platform would incorporate more advertising products to give businesses the opportunity to be in the spotlight and make progress.
Tonaton, which locally means “buy and sell”, is a classified online marketplace where both used and new items are listed for sale. Since its establishment in 2013, Tonaton has become a household name for buyers and sellers, with approximately 30 million page views.
