Energy remains the driver of modern economies- Prof. Adei
The Dean of Arts and Sciences at Ashesi University, Prof. Stephen Adei has urged government to continuously support the energy sector since it drives modern economies.
The energy sector is classified into power, petroleum (upstream and downstream) and renewable and is seen by analysts as the lifeblood of the global economy – a crucial input to nearly all of the goods and services of the modern world.
According to Prof. Adei maintained that countries should not lose sight of the crucial enabling role the energy sector plays in economic development.
“Energy, today, is the driver of modern economies and should be taken seriously,” he told the gathering at the launch of the first ever Ghana Energy Awards in Accra, of which he is part of the eight-member judging panel.
For the first time, an ‘Energy Personality’ would be awarded based on their widespread success and approval in the energy sector, at the Ghana Energy Awards, slated for November 30, 2017, at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra.
The ‘Energy Personality of the Year,’ the apex award out of 19 other award categories which will reward players in the power and petroleum sectors.
Other categories include the CEO of the Year, Industry Leadership award, Emerging Energy company of the year, Energy Institution of the year, Rising Star award (individual between 18-35), Best Energy Reporter, Lifetime Achievement Award, Brand of the year, BDC of the year, Oil and Gas Marketing Company of the year, among others.
Chairman of the panel for the awards, Dr. Kwame Ampofo, said all nominees and supporting materials must be submitted electronically to email@example.com and added that nominations would close by September 30,2017.
Companies are also not to be nominated for multiple awards and judges are expected to discard entries for multiple awards. The top four nominees would be shortlisted by 30th October, 2017.
Finalists will be announced and notified one month prior to the awards ceremony on the Ghana Energy Awards website.
The event is under the auspices of Energy Media Group and GP Business Associates and would be selected by an independent panel of judges.
